John Wick Bourbon: Cherry and Sherry Finishes Inspired by the Films

Barrel Global has put John Wick in a bottle. The officially licensed Kentucky Straight Bourbon is seven years old, bottled at 90 proof, and finished with sherry and cherry wood staves. Those two woods are not random: each one points to a different location from the films. It is the first release in a planned collection of John Wick spirits, and online pre-orders opened today.
What Makes This Release Special?
Most celebrity and movie bottles lean on the label. This one tries to build the story into the liquid. According to the brand, the cherry wood references the rooftop scene at The Continental Hotel in Osaka in the fourth film, while the sherry wood nods to the climactic moments set in Paris and Rome. In other words, the finish is meant to work like a three-city tour of the franchise.
The packaging carries the theme too. The front label shows cherry blossoms drifting around glass shattered by a gunshot, which the brand says represents the character's pursuit of peace through violence. The back label goes deeper into fan territory, with a vintage Mustang, praying hands, a "Debt in Blood" seal and an "Excommunicado" stamp. A glow-in-the-dark "neon effect" label version also appears in the design materials.
This is an officially licensed project with Lionsgate, and the franchise has plenty of fuel left. Beyond four films, there is the series The Continental and an upcoming film starring Donnie Yen as Caine, which has wrapped production. Founder George Koutsakis calls the spirits "storytelling in a bottle."

Inside the Bottle
This is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which means it is made in Kentucky and aged at least two years in new charred oak. This one is seven years old, bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof) in a 750ml bottle. The brand names Bardstown Bourbon Company, a Kentucky custom distilling specialist, as the source of the whiskey.
The twist is the finish. Finishing means giving a whiskey extra time with another type of wood after its main aging, and staves are the wooden strips that barrels are built from. Here, sherry and cherry oak staves add their own flavors on top of the bourbon. One outlet, Maxim, says the sherry wood brings European influence. No official tasting notes have been shared yet, so we will not guess what is in the glass.
The Story Behind Barrel Global
Barrel Global is a US-based barrel ownership platform, a business built around people owning actual barrels of whiskey. A licensed Hollywood bottle is a long way from that world, and it came together because the founder is a fan. Koutsakis says he and his team are huge fans of the franchise, and he worked with the team at Lionsgate to develop the range.
The deal was facilitated by IMG Licensing and gives Barrel Global the rights to manage production and distribution of John Wick-inspired spirits across Asia, Europe and South America. That makes this a global collectible project, not just a one-off movie tie-in.
The liquid ties back to Bardstown Bourbon Company, which makes whiskey for other brands as well as its own. That model lets a newer company like Barrel Global start with proper Kentucky bourbon instead of building a distillery first.

Tonights Poison Take
A seven-year age statement at about $55 to $60 gives this bottle real footing, and the finish story gives it something to talk about. This is for John Wick fans, collectors and anyone who likes a bottle with a good story on the shelf. The tie-in details are fun, but the Kentucky bourbon underneath is what makes it worth a pour. If a fan in your life is hard to shop for, this one just made the list.
Bar Talk: This bourbon is basically a three-city tour of the John Wick films, told in wood.
Know a John Wick fan who also loves bourbon? Send them this one, and tell us in the comments whether you would sip it neat or save it for the shelf.
