Barton 1792 Launches Wheated Full Proof at 125 Proof

Here is a number worth noticing: 1792 Sweet Wheat is bottled at 91.2 proof, and its new sibling, 1792 Wheated Full Proof, lands at a hefty 125. Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky announced the release on October 28, 2026, taking its wheated bourbon and bottling it at the same strength it had when it went into the barrel. It arrives in a 375mL bottle at $39.99, and the rollout starts in just five states in November.
Did You Know?
Sweet Wheat is made with wheat in place of the traditional rye, and it first arrived back in 2015.
The jump from Sweet Wheat to Wheated Full Proof is about 34 proof points, from 91.2 to 125.
The 1792 name honors 1792, the year Kentucky became a state.
The Release
1792 Wheated Full Proof is the same wheated bourbon style fans know from Sweet Wheat, bottled at barrel entry proof for more intensity. "Full proof" simply means the whiskey is not diluted down from the strength it had when it entered the barrel. Here that strength is 125 proof, or 62.5% ABV.
Wheated bourbon swaps rye, the grain that usually adds spice, for wheat, which tends to taste softer and sweeter. Sweet Wheat is known for layers of vanilla, caramel, fruit and oak, and this release aims to turn up the volume on all of that rather than change the recipe's character. The sources do not state an age, a mash bill or a batch size.
Master Distiller Ross Cornelissen framed it as a bridge for different drinkers. He said, "The sweetness is still there, but the higher proof brings greater depth and richness." He added that fans of high-proof bourbon will find the bold character they want, while newcomers to higher proofs get an inviting way in.
According to the distillery, the nose offers soft caramel and dried honey, followed by ripe apricot, vanilla and sweet oak. The palate is silky and full-bodied, with honeyed caramel, ripe stone fruit, subtle tropical notes and balanced oak tannins. The finish is long and warm, with caramelized sugar, oak and sweetness.
The 375mL size, a half bottle, and the $39.99 price make this an easy way to try a 125 proof pour without a big commitment. It is distilled and aged at Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown. Availability is limited: California, Texas, New York, Florida and Illinois, beginning in November 2026.
The Story of 1792
Barton 1792 Distillery, established in 1879, is the oldest fully operating distillery in Bardstown and has been making whiskey there for nearly 150 years. The historic property covers 196 acres and holds 30 barrel-aging warehouses, an impressive still house and the legendary Tom Moore Spring. It is an American family-owned company within Barton Brands, which is owned by the Sazerac Company.
The 1792 Bourbon brand itself has been produced since 2002. It started out as Ridgewood Reserve 1792, according to background on the brand. The name nods to Kentucky's statehood year, and the lineup today runs well beyond the core Small Batch bottle. It includes Single Barrel, Bottled in Bond, Full Proof, Aged Twelve Years and Sweet Wheat.
Awards have followed. 1792 Small Batch was named Best Kentucky Small Batch Bourbon at the 2025 World Whiskies Awards. 1792 Aged 12 Years, Full Proof and Small Batch each earned Double Gold at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Sweet Wheat has its own medals: Double Gold at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Gold at the 2025 International Wine & Spirit Competition and Gold at the 2026 Denver International Spirits Competition.
Why It Stands Out
Higher-proof bourbon is easy to find, and wheated bourbon is too, but the pairing of the two at a modest price is less common. Sweet Wheat already has a following and a shelf of medals, so this reads as a natural step up for people who like that profile and want more punch. The small bottle also keeps the cost of experimenting low.
