Booker's Southern Thunder Batch

Booker's newest batch is named after a sound: the deep, resounding voice of the late Booker Noe, which the brand says was impossible to miss. James B. Beam Distilling Co. has unveiled the Southern Thunder Batch, a cask-strength Kentucky Straight Bourbon bottled at 127.3 proof. It is a limited release with a suggested retail price of $99.99, and the youngest barrels in the blend are more than seven and a half years old.

Did You Know?

  • Southern Thunder blends whiskey from five different production dates, stored in five different warehouses, and every one of them is a seven-story rickhouse (a barrel storage warehouse).

  • Booker Noe was not big on compliments, so hearing him say "Done good" meant you had really earned it, according to the brand.

  • Booker's began in 1988, but Booker Noe had already been bottling similar barrel selections as gifts for friends and family.

The Release

Southern Thunder is built from barrels drawn across five warehouse locations, and the brand has noted exactly where each portion rested. About 23% aged on the 5th floor of warehouse 3, 22% on the 6th floor of warehouse 6, 21% on the 3rd floor of warehouse G, 20% on the 4th floor of warehouse 4, and 14% on the 4th floor of warehouse M. Different floors of a rickhouse age whiskey differently, so blending across them is a way to build a fuller flavor profile.

The youngest barrels selected were seven years, eight months and 14 days old, and the batch is bottled at 127.3 proof.

Like all Booker's, this is cask strength, meaning it goes into the bottle without being watered down to a lower proof. According to the brand, the nose carries vanilla and oak, the palate is big and bold and unmistakably Booker's, and the finish is long and delightful.

The name is a tribute. Booker Noe's voice was famously big, and the brand says the "Southern Thunder" label is a nod to it. The batch also recalls his rare approval at the distillery, where a "Done good" from Booker meant you were doing it right.

This is a US release with a US suggested retail price of $99.99 for a 750ml bottle.

Booker's 2026-03

The Story of Booker's

Booker's is part of the Jim Beam Small Batch Collection, alongside Knob Creek, Baker's and Basil Hayden. All four bourbons are produced and aged at the Clermont, Kentucky campus.

In 1988, sixth-generation master distiller Booker Noe released Booker's Bourbon straight from the barrel, uncut and unfiltered. Before that, he had bottled similar selections as gifts for friends and family, so the commercial release was really a way to share something he already loved.

Fred Noe and Freddie Noe still follow that approach. Every batch carries its own name and gets Fred's personal approval. The whiskey is typically aged between six and eight years and bottled at barrel strength, which is why proof and age shift a little from batch to batch.

Why It Stands Out

Southern Thunder is the third Booker's batch of 2026, following Big Easy (129.1 proof) and Milkshake (124.4 proof). At 127.3 proof, it lands between the two, and all three carry the same $99.99 suggested price. For collectors who follow each batch, the warehouse breakdown is the fun part, since you can see exactly how the blend came together. The batch-to-batch differences are what make this lineup worth tracking.

Booker's Bourbon 2026

Tonights Poison Take

Booker's batches are a good lesson in how much a bourbon can change from one release to the next, and this one pairs a strong warehouse story with a sentimental name. The proof sits comfortably in the middle of the 2026 run, and the seven-plus years of age is right in the brand's usual range. If you are collecting the full year, this is an easy one to add.

Bar Talk: This batch is named after Booker Noe's booming voice, and it is blended from five different warehouses.

Send this to the bourbon fan who is collecting every Booker's batch this year, and tell us which name is your favorite.
