NY/NJ Agave Club's Own Barrel: Tierra de Ensueño Rare Cask Reposado

This bottle is already gone, and it still deserves a story. The Tierra de Ensueño x NYNJ Agave Club Rare Cask Reposado is a 2026 Private Reserve of just a couple hundred bottles, and the barrel behind it was chosen by club members standing in the distillery itself.
It is a sold out tequila, but it is also a good excuse to talk about the community that made it happen.
What Makes This Release Special?
Plenty of "exclusive" bottles are really a stock tequila with a custom label. This one began with club members walking into the distillery in 2025 and helping pick the barrel. That is a real connection between producer and community, and it is why the bottle exists at all.
The cask is worth noting too. It is American oak that once held high-proof wheated bourbon aged at least 12 years. Wheated bourbon swaps rye for wheat as the secondary grain, and it usually drinks softer and rounder. That is a lot of bourbon history for a tequila to sit in.
The tequila rested for nine months. Reposado simply means "rested," and by Mexican rules it spends anywhere from two months to under a year in wood. For comparison, the brand's regular Reposado Batch 4 was aged six months, according to the brand's site. Nine months puts this one nearer the top of the reposado range.
Then there's the NY/NJ Agave Club itself, and this is where the story gets a little personal for me.
Over the last couple of years, I've had the pleasure of attending several of their local events, meeting some fantastic people, and building genuine friendships along the way. One of those people is Rich, the club's president, who has become a great friend over the years.
And apparently, we can't even escape each other when we leave New Jersey! I've crossed paths with the group a couple of times down in Mexico, naturally over some good tequila. That's what I love about this community. The friendships and shared passion for agave go well beyond the events.
What Rich and the NY/NJ Agave Club have built is something special. They're not just organizing tastings or chasing exclusive bottles. They're bringing people together, educating enthusiasts, introducing great producers and brands, and creating experiences that genuinely move the agave community forward.
Whether you're just discovering tequila or have been exploring agave spirits for years, this is exactly the kind of community worth being part of.
A big shoutout to Rich and the entire NY/NJ Agave Club family for everything you're doing to bring the agave community together. Keep up the great work!

Inside the Bottle
This is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila, and the agave is estate-grown. The ingredient list is short: agave, water and yeast. It is made in Jesús María, in the Jalisco highlands, at distillery NOM 1580. A NOM is the four-digit code that identifies which distillery made a tequila, a bit like a license plate for the still.
The team behind it is Master Distiller Sergio Cruz and Master Blender Oscar Vázquez Camarena. At 45.5% ABV (91 proof), it sits a little above the usual 40% bottling strength, so expect a bit more weight and presence in the glass. No official tasting notes were available for this bottle, so I will leave the flavor to those lucky enough to have one.
A Bottle That Gives Back
There's another important part of this collaboration that deserves some love: giving back.
The NY/NJ Agave Club lives by its "Sip with Purpose" philosophy, and that means using its passion for agave to make a difference beyond the glass.
With this special Tierra de Ensueño release, a portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold benefits the Gente Buena Foundation. The foundation works with communities in Mexico's agave-producing regions, supporting initiatives focused on access to clean drinking water, healthcare, women's leadership, and environmental sustainability.
I especially appreciate this aspect of the collaboration. We spend so much time celebrating the tequila in our glasses, but it's equally important to recognize and support the people and communities who make it all possible.
The club also supports charitable causes through its events, special releases, merchandise, and volunteer efforts. It's another reason I have so much respect for what this group is doing.
Great tequila, great people, and a great cause. That's a collaboration worth celebrating.
The Story Behind Tierra de Ensueño
Tierra de Ensueño translates roughly to "land of dreams," and the setting backs up the name. The tequila comes from NOM 1580, Hacienda El Olvido in Jesús María, a distillery described as a fifth-generation family operation. The agave grows on a single estate in red clay soil, and the family's roots in this land are the foundation of everything the brand bottles.
Production keeps a traditional feel. Fermentation happens in the open air, and distillation runs twice, first in stainless steel and then in copper. The brand says it uses only fully mature agave, pure water and natural yeast. Master Distiller Sergio Cruz and Master Blender Oscar Vázquez guide the process.
The brand has also built a single barrel program, which gives groups like the NY/NJ Agave Club a chance to taste through barrels and pick their own. That is the sort of access that turns a customer into a collaborator.

Did You Know?
According to the brand, classical music plays during fermentation at the distillery. They call it the "mozart method."
A retailer description says the brand's Blanco rests two weeks in 12-year-old Weller barrels. That means a blanco with bourbon-barrel polish, and the brand reportedly tries to keep the connection quiet.

Tonights Poison Take
At $119.99, this is a serious limited release, with an exceptional bourbon cask, nine months of aging, estate-grown agave, and a higher bottling proof. But what makes this bottle special to me goes beyond what's inside.
Having spent time with Rich and the NY/NJ Agave Club members, both at home and in Mexico, I've seen firsthand the passion and friendships that make this community what it is.
When a group can bring together great tequila, meaningful education, genuine friendships, and a charitable cause that supports the people behind the spirit, that's a win in my book.
The bottles may be sold out, but the community behind them is only getting stronger.
Cheers to Rich and the entire NY/NJ Agave Club family. Keep moving the agave community forward!
Bar Talk: This tequila rested in a barrel that once held bourbon aged at least 12 years, and it was picked by club members, not just a brand.
