Courvoisier Launches Rebold, a Cognac Made Only for China

Courvoisier Rebold

For the first time in its history, Courvoisier has made a Cognac for one country only. Rebold, known in Chinese as 锐邑 (Ruì Yì), is a China-exclusive expression from Campari Group, built for younger drinkers who like fruit and tea-based serves. It was developed by Courvoisier master blender Thibaut Hontanx, who once lived and worked in China, and it arrives as Campari works to "rebuild" the brand. It is not available in the US, and no US release has been announced.

Did You Know?

  • Rebold is the first Cognac Courvoisier has created exclusively for China.

  • China is still Cognac's second-biggest market, yet it represents only a small share of Courvoisier's sales.

  • Campari finalised its purchase of Courvoisier from Suntory Global Spirits for US$1.17bn.

The Release

Rebold is described by the brand as a "bright, fruity and exceptionally smooth style" of Cognac. Part of the blend went through a second maturation in carefully selected barrels, including casks that previously held Courvoisier XO, which the brand says builds layers of flavour and complexity.

According to the brand, the nose shows spice, almond and apple marmalade, followed by floral notes. The palate is described as velvety, with soft tannins (the drying, grippy feel you get from oak) and subtle smoky touches leading into a long, fresh finish.

Courvoisier is also pointing drinkers toward mixing. The recommended serves are built around tea and fruit, which fits the brand's pitch of new moments of sharing. The label is a vibrant purple and carries the characters 锐邑, which the brand says reflect optimism, curiosity and self-expression.

Hontanx says his visits to China showed him how a new generation is making Cognac its own, and he was inspired by their openness to new flavours, serves and occasions. Louise Dennett, managing director of Campari's House of Cognac & Champagne, called it "an exciting new chapter for Courvoisier in China." She added that it is meant to feel contemporary and versatile while staying unmistakably Courvoisier.

Rebold has an SRP of RMB330 (about $50) per 700ml bottle, which varies across the country. A smaller 50ml format is planned for 2027.

Courvoisier China exclusive Cognac

The Story of Courvoisier

Courvoisier is the youngest and smallest of the "big four" Cognac houses, alongside Hennessy, Rémy Martin and Martell. It is based in Jarnac in the Charente region of France, and its roots go back to 1796, when Emmanuel Courvoisier started a wine and spirit business in the Parisian suburb of Bercy.

It is often called the most untypical of the big four. It controls every step of production but does no distilling of its own, and it has never owned vines.

Ownership has changed several times, passing from Allied Domecq to Beam Global (later Suntory Global Spirits) and, most recently, to Campari Group, which finalised the deal in 2024. Campari first counted Courvoisier in its organic growth from May 2025. The brand posted 6.3% organic growth in the first half of 2026.

Rebold landed alongside a global campaign called Pass the Courvoisier. It debuted with a film and is set to grow into a long-term creative platform, with experiences in cities such as Shanghai.

Why It Stands Out

Cognac has had a rough few years in China, particularly after the anti-dumping investigation aimed at EU Cognac imports. Rather than pull back, Campari is making a market-specific liquid. Dennett said the company is "really putting a lot of effort into the China opportunity," and that part of the work was finding a liquid profile that suits Chinese drinkers while staying true to 200 years of Courvoisier liquid. Market-exclusive bottles like this are rare in big-house Cognac.

Rebold is a smart look at how a heritage house can speak to a new audience without leaving its roots behind. The second maturation in ex-XO barrels ties it back to the Courvoisier family, while the tea and fruit serves show who it is for. Collectors outside China will probably have to rely on travelers or importers to ever see a bottle, which adds to the curiosity.

Bar Talk: Courvoisier just made its first Cognac exclusively for China, and part of it was matured in barrels that once held XO.
